Overcoming challenges As recent examples of what M.D. Steele is capable of, Richard cites the company’s work on two recent bridge projects – including PTH 59 over the Red River Floodway inWinnipeg, and the St. Andrews Lock & Dam in nearby Lockport. The PTH 59 project is valued at roughly $41 million. The scope consists of demolishing the existing structure accommodate two new sevenspan three-lane bridges on PTH 59, with the addition of widening and reshaping the channel to accommodate spring flood water levels. The new bridge structures are being constructed using steel H piles, cast-in-place piers and abutments, and precast NU girders with cast-in-place deck and asphalt riding surface. Work on PTH 59 has followed an aggressive two-year schedule, with many challenging aspects – for example, the pier and foundations built in the winter required large and complex MAY 2022
