he explains, “so as an owner I can pour more time and attention into projects than would be viable if we were a bigger company and we had always had a dozen projects on the go. That maybe gives us a competitive advantage when compared to a lot of larger developers, whose approach basically has to be a little bit more formulaic.” At the same, Darryl also partly credits the personality of their team: “Solving problems is what Kevin and I love to do,” he says. “The same goes for our staff. We’ve worked hard to find the right people. We seek creative and critical thinkers, and we all take a lot of pride in what we do.” Moving forward, ModBox’s goal is to continue to exercise that critical thinking and continue developing projects they can be proud of – projects of similar size and complexity as the St. Charles Market. “We want to keep doing the types of projects we’re doing now,” Darryl says, “which are projects that are creative and projects that engage us from a problem-solving point of view. We want to keep doing cool stuff. We believe that’s where we have a competitive advantage. That’s what we’ve built ourselves to do.” MARCH 2022
