not just designers In addition to offering a full range of design services, f2a architecture builds small and unprecedented projects requiring their direct coordination of work on site. A strong demonstration of that capability was their work on the Malinka Gallery, an extension to a private home on a rocky ledge in Naramata. The original home, built in 2004, was designed by Florian Maurer – it served as his personal home for over a decade until it was sold to new owners in 2015. And not only did Florian design it, he also built it – he personally framed it and managed the construction. For his efforts, he was awarded the Governor General’s Medal in Architecture in 2005. Florian found inspiration for that house in the courtyards of houses he stayed in near the Argentine wine town of Mendoza. He designed the original house to consist of three single-storey, standalone MARCH 2022
