people. Generations of kids are going to learn how to swim there. Generations of adults are going to go there to exercise. There’s something to be said for being part of a project that has that sort of legacy.” Like Troy, both Dan and Michael are also proud of the whole IPD team for the way they persevered through the difficulties of COVID: “We’ve had a lot of hardships on this project in terms of what’s going on in the world right now,” Michael says. “But we’ve done a good job as a team at adapting and responding to challenges as they come up. We’ve been able to go through this adversity together and we’re still in the process of building a really great pool for the town.” “There are a lot of challenges we have faced with material availability, with price escalation, with deliveries,” Dan adds. “But we were able to maneuver and pivot in order to keep the project where it should be without losing value. That speaks volumes to the team and to the IPD process itself.” Arshia Ahmed also credits the project’s success so far, in spite of the challenges, to the IPD process – she says it has made it “so easy and convenient to deliver this kind of public project, where there are so many user inputs and different spending requirements.” Personally, Arshia is also happy to have gotten the chance to contribute to a new aquatic centre, which she had never done before. “I was excited to be a part of it and to learn something new,” she says. “It’s been a fun process. Aquatic centres are usually seen as mechanical projects just because there’s so much water and so many tanks and pumps – but those tanks and pumps all need to be powered.” Lastly, Annette Driessen is just happy for the Town of Drayton Valley and Brazeau County. She says that the community is getting a facility that they desperately need and want, and that has been a “long time coming.” “It’sbeen12years inthemaking,” she concludes. “It takes a lot of time for a small community like ours to make a commitment on a recreational facility like this, especially during an economic time that has not been the best for our community. I’m happy that we finally made it happen. And I’m really happy with the IPD process and the IPD team we have here on the project.” DRAYTON VALLEY BRAZEAU AQUATIC CENTRE
