THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE CANADA to the public.” To assemble their IPD team, the Town of Drayton Valley went through a public RFP process, first for an architect, and then a general contractor – they ultimately selected Group2 Architecture Interior Design for the former role and Chandos Construction for the latter. They then put out RFPs for all the other project scopes, which led them to WSP and Priority Mechanical, among other partners. Troy Smith, a Principal with Group2 Architecture Interior Design, believes his firm was a natural partner for a project like this, because “public facilities are our bread and butter.” “We do schools, we do rec centres, we do libraries,” he explains. “It’s a sector we do a lot of work in. We’re very familiar with it. We understand what clients are looking for and we know how to help them achieve their objectives.” Also, Troy says, Group2 was already very familiar with the IPD process. He estimates that the Drayton Valley Brazeau Aquatic Centre is their 27th IPD project – and that list includes multiple indoor pool facilities, including the first completed IPD project in British Columbia for the City of Kamloops. “So we felt we had the right experience and skillset to bring to the team,” he says.
