To achieve those dual goals, EkoBuilt offers a line of super energy efficient house plans of all sizes, fromtinyhomes to large family homes with integrated garages and carports. Clients pick the one closest to their vision, and then work with EkoBuilt to modify it to perfectly fit their lifestyle and preferences – or they can start from scratch, and design something wholly original. From there, EkoBuilt takes care of everything from start-to-finish. Using proven low-energy design techniques and high quality materials, they deliver a finished product that is “high-performance, low-energy, and supremely comfortable,” says Paul Kealey, founder and director of the company. Paul formed EkoBuilt along with his co-founder and co-director Adam Tackaberry. Prior to EkoBuilt, the twoof themstarted another business, called Kealey Tackaberry Log Homes – which, true to the name, built classic log and timberframe homes. Under that banner, they still focused on building sustainably and energy-efficiently, just like that they do now, but they built using timber. That company successfully built year-round homes for a long time, but they later experienced issues when “energy bills started to skyrocket,” Paul recalls. “Since we were a sustainable company we never wanted to bring propane onto our properties, so we’d heat them THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE CANADA “It’s not just people that are green-minded anymore. Since the cost of energy has increased so much, and since we have an affordable way of building passive homes – and the cost is not that much different than the cost of building a conventional home – people are coming to us because they want to save money.”
