approaching zoning, to clearing zoning, to putting together their construction documentation – the client is getting various updates throughout this process, so they always know what’s going on. They always know what their project is going to cost and are able to, with informed advice and demonstration, make their own calls on what is important to them, based on real economic decisions. This helps them flush out their ‘needs,’ ‘wants,’ and ‘must haves.’” “So they are not going to one specialized entity within a vast industry and just getting their perspective on what they will get with their drawings. It means that they are not just getting a whole bunch of drawings that they fall in love with, and then going to get it quoted and it turns out its more money than they can afford. So then they’ve just wasted a year of their lives and they’ve probably dropped $20,000 to $30,000 on plans that they can’t do anything with, or need to be amended.” “That’s not happening with us. With us, the client gets to be involved in their project from the very beginning – and they get to have real information, updated information, on how much that project is going to cost them. Then they can make decisions for themselves on what they want to have or not have.” To help clients realistically achieve their dreams within their budget, Norseman can also work with their engineers and architects – who they employ in-house, under their roof – to alleviate costs by selecting different materials that might cost less while still meeting the client’s needs. That represents another significant point of difference for the company. Throughout the entire development process, Norseman stays in very close contact with clients. Duringtheplanninganddesignphase, forexample, they have weekly meetings with a real person. Then during construction, the construction team provides a minimum of three weekly updates on their log, and that’s accompanied by a once-aweek video call with a construction manager. “The client is constantly engaged all the way through,” Kris says. “We make sure they feel comfortable with every move that’s being made and every dollar that’s being spent.” When it comes to payments, Norseman also breaks down their projects into multiple stages of draws, so they are never drawing too much money from a client at one time. “We give clients confidence by only using the money that they’re going to spend on the next item or the next function of work,” Kris says. “That can mean 30 payments. That can mean 40 payments. We don’t care. We’ll also coordinate and work with banks, or with any lending institutions that they might have, and we can align those progress payments to the requirements of those particular banks or institutions.” “We also work with a rebate company that works exclusively with us,” he adds. “They work with almost all our clients to help them generate and recoup rebates. They’ll even go in looking for those rebates. They can often find $20,000 to $30,000 in rebates, depending on what aspects of rebatable items have been performed on their projects.” In addition to providing all this customer service, Norseman also delivers to an extremely high standard of workmanship – which is something else sets them apart. Again, Kris says that’s largely a credit to their systems and processes, which ensure that their projects are always being monitored and always being delivered to quality THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE CANADA
