Tooketree has teamed up with them and together they applied for and won phase 1 of a federal grant targeting at mitigating the northern housing crisis. “The government has given us enough money for materials to make a small home for an Indigenous woman in the north who is in need of housing,” Rick explains. “We’re training her and other folks from the Keepers in our factory. Since early September, we have had rotating shifts of Indigenous women coming here, working alongside our team, and learning how to build panels.” When done it will be a healthy, sustainable home that sequesters carbon, helping to mitigate climate change.
