“Our staff is uniquely experienced,” Steve says. “When it comes to our systemof delivery, I think we really stand out from our competitors. You can just look at our resume of completed works. We can demonstrate that we can do this successfully. We can also demonstrate a long list of lessons learned. We can explain to our clients, ‘Here are all the things that can go wrong, sometimes catastrophically wrong,’ and they are going to want to hire us because we’ve already learned those lessons.” The company also employs an extremely capable and creative team of carpenters. That team is an especial asset on their smaller projects, such as their custom homes, where they are not doing as much prefabrication. “We have some of the best carpenters on the island,” Steve says. “When it comes to the quality of the staff we have installing our products, I just think we’re unmatched. I don’t think you can find better people.” Kinsol Timber’s custom home work is limited right now, but Steve expects that to gradually change as the building code necessitatesmore sustainability in homes. Wood, after all, is the most abundant naturally renewable building material on the planet, and it has the lowest embodied energy of any primary building material. Wood is also recoverable at the end of a building’s life, which adds to the sustainability. “As the building codes evolve, I think we’re going to see more opportunities to do what we do on a smaller scale more often,” Steve explains. “I think we’re well positioned to do that. It’s not a huge part of our business right now, but I think there’s opportunity there based on where the industry is going.” THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE CANADA
