jobs as he could while working as a city firefighter. A fateful accident nearly cost him his hand, however, and forced him do some soul searching. He decided to throw himself into learning everything he could about the business side of real estate investing and luxury home building. For years, Dan worked with investors in building and flipping luxury spec homes. In that role, he showed that he could build gorgeous, high quality homes while ensuring that projects were profitable for his investors. Armed with that market expertise and building ability, he then transitioned into building luxury custom homes for clients. Dan says that working in the luxury space was a goal of his all along. That’s not because he wants to make the most money possible, or because he wants to build the most opulent houses – it’s because he wants to provide the highest possible quality for the most value. “Working in the luxury market, you can use better materials,” he explains. “You can have houses that function better, that perform better, that are more air-tight, that are straighter – you can provide just overall better quality homes. That’s what I love to do.” Dan knew that he had to prove himself first, however, before clients would take him seriously. That’s why Emmett Leo Homes started a spec builder. “Nobody’s going to build a three million dollar home with someone who doesn’t have a portfolio,” Dan explains. “So I built a portfolio. I did a series of million dollar spec homes, and they all sold. I showed that I knew what I was doing. I could build beautiful quality homes and I could provide a return in value to investors. I earned a lot of trust in the market.” These days, Dan believes ‘trust’ is the main reason why clients choose Emmett Leo Homes.
