That starts in-house, with their roster of roughly 80 staff members, with the majority coming from the areas surrounding the Springfield Hutterite Colony. “Where we’re located, it’s hard to find people to start with, and it’s hard to retain them,” says Robert Ringland, Plant Manager. “So it’s important we take care of our people. We have to treat them properly. We have to treat them well.” Treating them well, in Robert’s view, means giving them benefits, it means being flexible with start times so they can take their kids to school, it means hosting regular lunches and annual Christmas parties. Springfield Woodworking does all those things. As a result, most of their team is longstanding. “I’ve been here now almost six years,” Robert says. “Most employees have been here longer than me.
