The Construction Source

FEBRUARY 2021 One example is Taber Home & Farm Centre, a longstanding local business that has been supplying to farmers and contractors in southern Alberta since 1983. Throughout their history, they have remained independently owned-and- operated, and they have been a proud and frequent supporter of community projects and organizations. They have also combined competitive pricing with a VHL-like commitment to providing the best customer service possible, no matter the size or scope of the job. Moving forward, VHL Construction’s goal is to continue abiding by that same philosophy, and to continue working with subcontractors and suppliers who feel the same. In collaboration with those partners, Abraham says he wants to continue growing the company and continue seeking out more diverse work. Three years ago, for example, VHL started building concrete irrigation structures in the winter. They are doing that again this year, and Abraham sees them doing it every year moving forward, as many of those structures were originally built in the 1950s and are now consistently being replaced. Those are the kinds of interesting opportunities he wants the company to identify and pursue. “We want to grow, but we don’t have any particular number in mind,” he says. “Instead, we ask ‘What are the needs in our community?’ If our company can jump in and meet those needs, we will. That’s been very successful for us. That’s how we grow.”
