Over the course of his career, Tomhas developed a successful formula involving a hands-on consultative process that draws out the best ideas and insights fromall project stakeholders.He has demonstrated the success of his approach on a number of recognized buildings, including: the Victoria International Airport Terminal Building, Comox Valley Visitors Centre, the Crystal Garden annex to the Victoria Conference Centre, Hotel Grand Pacific, Saanich Commonwealth Place, and Dragon Alley, to name just a few. Jesse and Tom first met in the late 2000s, when they worked together on a series of projects in Vancouver. Years later, they ended up meeting and working together again in Victoria, where their bond was solidified. They realized they shared similar interests and values – they both wanted to run a small practice, for example, and do a diverse array of work – and they decided to officially partner up. Studio 531 Architects was originally founded by Tom in 2012, with Jesse becoming a partner in 2017. Since then, the company has completed a balance of public and private sector projects – with the majority using off site manufactured components including timber as a primary structural material, as befitting Jesse’s background. According to Jesse, clients in all sectors choose Studio 531 for a number of reasons.
