The Construction Source
“We have strong relationships across the board, with every part of the supply chain,” he explains. “That’s one of the reasons why we’re so effective. We believe that relationships are the key to successful large- scale undertakings.” Another reason KCM is effective is their focus on problem solving. During each phase of construction, they work towards finding desirable and economic solutions to all questions, issues, or problems that arise. “We’re known as a solutions company,” Garry says. “When there’s a problem – and it doesn’t matter where the problem arises – we’re here to solve it on behalf of our client. We’ve been very successful at that historically.” For example: as the construction manager of Horseshoe Bay Sanctuary, KCM tackled a host of complicated situations such as overseeing the removal of 13,000 cubic meters of rock – the largest volume ever taken out of the North Shore – and building a special ramp at the marina so it could be transported by barge to Squamish. The project also required a protective secant pile wall drilled and poured along the marina front of the site – a process that alone took almost four months. Also of note were the building foundations. The main building required a 400-cubicmeter slab, and that was just one footing. Concrete work overall was a series of steps and staggers, none of which were the same. As for the beams, posts, and other wood components, they were fabricated in Squamish.
