In this edition, we take a look at a variety of companies, but they what all have in common is a founding a vision – their owners believed in doing things differently. In the case of Coquitlam-based Édifice Construction and founder Dan Legal, ‘doing things differently’ meant forging more collaborative relationships with clients. Throughout his lifelong-career, Dan had seen how communication could break down, how disputes could arise, and how quality could suffer. With Édifice, he built a company that avoided those pitfalls. In the following pages, he explains how he did it. Serge Bertucci Custom Design Build , meanwhile, is a custom design and build firm based in Windsor. The man in the title had also been in the industry all his life, following in his father’s footsteps. When he struck out on his own, the difference he wanted to offer was personal service and accountability. He’d heard the horror stories from people who could never get a hold of their builder, or whose builder would never call them back. He started his eponymous company with two goals – to build high- quality, individual, and eco-friendly homes, and to make sure those horror stories would never be about him. We talked to him about how he has achieved for both. The founders and owners of Duncan Harwood Custom Homes and KG Homes are similarly visionary – and we were also fortunate to tell their stories in this issue.
