As it stands, the new facility features a state-of-the-art healing environment for patients needing short-term acute mental health care, in- cluding those suffering from major depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, psychotic and mood dis- orders, and substance dependence. It also in- cludes a secure rooftop garden for patient gar- dening. Ian says that Ellis- Don is proud of projects like that one, due to the public good that will come from it. The client on the project was Vancou- ver Coastal Health. In a press release announc- ing the substantial com- pletion of the project, their president and CEO Mary Ackenhusen said that the new facility will ensure that psychiatric and substance-use cli- ents will “truly receive the best care.” “We know that nat- ural light, well-designed rooms and common ar- eas can make a tangible difference in the recovery of patients, allowing them to return to the communi- ty and their normal lives more quickly,” she said. “We look forward to the improved access and outcomes this building will provide.”
